The development of the Nottingham Corpus of Geospatial Language was funded under the EuroGEOSS Project (2009-2012) by the European Commission Seventh Framework Programme.  EuroGEOSS had the goal of building a Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS). This emerging public infrastructure is interconnecting a diverse and growing array of instruments and systems for monitoring and forecasting changes in the global environment around three main areas of societal benefit: Drought, Forest, Biodiversity. The 'system of systems' is designed to support policymakers, resource managers, scientific researchers and many other experts and decision makers.
